DAY ONE:
ARRIVE BELLA-BELLA

Arrive Bella Bella late morning via Pacific Coastal Airlines.

The scenery in this region is breathtakingly beautiful. Upon your arrival, you will be met and taken to the Koeye Lodge.

Travelling by speedboat through the waters of the famous 'Inside Passage', your guided transfer to the Koeye Lodge will last approximately 1-½ hours.

Arrive at the Koeye Estuary early afternoon, have some lunch, relax and settle in to your lodgings.

Enjoy a leisurely evening and three-course dinner prepared by your hosts.

After dinner, take a stroll along Koeye's sandy shores.

Listen to the sea, taste the salt, feel the sand between your toes, and relax watching the sun slowly slip beneath the horizon.

Grizzly bears tracks at the water's edgeDAY TWO:
JOURNEY THROUGH THE HOME OF 'QAIKAS NAN' THE GREAT GRIZZLY BEAR

'Qaikas Nan', the Great Grizzly Bear, shares the beaches and forests of Koeye with wolves, river otters, deer, porcupines, eagles, and the occasional transient cougar.

After breakfast, we will take you on a guided interpretative journey through the Koeye Estuary.

This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy wildlife viewing while gently floating down the estuary. During the months of August and September the Koeye River is full of spawning salmon, which attracts eagles and bears.

Accompanied by our experienced guides, you will journey through prime grizzly habitat, walk ancient grizzly trails, see bedding sites and rubbing trees, and learn about the habits of the Great Grizzly Bear.

Of course, 'Qaikas Nan' is unpredictable and we can never guarantee he will show his face, however, there is plenty to see and learn of our good friend and neighbour!

To make the most of your day in the estuary, a shore lunch will be provided. After lunch we will visit a village site located in the Koeye Valley and an abandoned limestone quarry.

Native pictographs of coppersDAY THREE:
EXPLORE PACIFIC WATERS AND COASTAL RAINFORESTS

After breakfast, we will take you on a guided boat trip to explore Pacific waters and Koeye's wild and rugged coast.

Our journey will include viewings of pictographs (ancient stone paintings), an ancient village site and midden.

We will return to the Koeye Lodge for a late lunch. In the afternoon, you may choose to take a light walk to the mudflats of Koeye, an ideal location for bird watching; or join a guided interpretative tour through the old growth rainforests of Koeye.

In the evening, low-tide permitting take a stroll along the shore and check out the rich and colourful inter-tidal life. And as night sky falls, gather round the open fire, and let the glow of your day light your heart.

Traditional native fire-roasted salmonDAY FOUR:
COASTAL FIRST NATIONS CULTURE

Enjoy a guided boat trip to the village site and clay pits of Kisameet.

En-route, visit, the home of a colony of seals.

As you cruise through these unspoilt waters of the Pacific watch out for transient Orcas, Humpbacks and Dolphins.

Return to the Koeye Lodge for a late lunch.

In the evening, gather around the open fire, and enjoy a traditional style salmon barbeque (weather permitting).

After dinner, take a leisurely stroll across Koeye's sandy beaches to the site of the Koeye River Science and Culture Camps where you will witness Heiltsuk youth celebrate their cultural history and renew their spiritual connection to the land that has sustained their ancestors for centuries.
