Funding – What WE Are Doing & What YOU Can Do to Help:
A long-term management model with adequate funding needs to be put in place if Koeye is to remain the healthy, vibrant system that it is.
- 1. Koeye is supported for the most part through the efforts of QQS Projects. QQS must raise $300,000 per year to run programs and maintain a strong advocacy presence in the watershed. Competition for funding and the absence of any kind of legacy funding for Koeye puts the long-term future of Koeye at risk.
- 2. On the ground projects need to have continued support through grants and financial help on an annual basis. The broader conservation community must continue to support Koeye initiatives and help accomplish the long-term conservation goals we all share for Koeye. There are many ways to do this through staff retreats, lodge bookings and connecting Koeye projects to appropriate fenders.
The cost of owning the Koeye Lodge and property is about $100,000 per year. The lodge cannot generate this income without significant marketing and management expertise and without some financial support for upkeep and maintenance. To date this responsibility has largely been put on QQS Projects to the detriment of their other programs. We need to develop a collective management model, which distributes the burden of this expense to various supporters.
